Titanium Metal
The International Space Centre uses the metal in its parts because it is denser than aluminium and twice as strong while it is 45% lighter than steel. It does not corrode easily and is used in medical implants and jewellery designing due to non toxic and un-reactive nature. It is non-magnetic, a bad conductor of electricity and heat.
It is named after the Titans (the gods of the earth) and its Atomic number is 22. It is ninth most abundant found in earth’s reserves and can be found in seawater, on the moon and even human body. Its mines can be found in igneous rocks and 95 per cent of the metal is extracted from its dioxide. The growth in investment has been driving the demand of the metal globally.
