Passion investment involves buying items or collectibles that are rare physical assets. Investment in colored gemstones such as diamonds, sapphires, rubies and spinels offer diversification. Strong jewellery sale of colored gemstone in blues and pinks, the ones considered rare as compared to white, can be seen these days. Christie auction sold 14.6 carat blue diamond at Geneva for $57.5 million. The sale has been driven by growing price of colored diamonds. These are, traditionally, popular, but now some of the new types of rare stones such as Tsavourite and Jadeite are getting popular.

Jewelry itself has an intrinsic value where the gems set in metals such as gold and platinum, further, enhances the value as these metals are sold per gram. If made into jewelry in combination with diamonds and other precious metals, its value can be more than fifty thousand US dollar.
